Visual Designer - Houston Rockets App Experience Improvement

The Objective
I identified a usability and visual consistency gap within the Houston Rockets mobile app ticketing system and proactively partnered with digital marketing leadership to improve the experience through brand-aligned, production-ready design updates.

My Role
I identified a pain point within the app ticketing experience and took initiative to explore potential solutions. I learned platform constraints and existing design patterns to ensure feasible execution, adapting brand visuals into production-ready assets aligned with app requirements. I collaborated closely with marketing and digital teams to implement updates efficiently.

During my work with the Houston Rockets, I developed a keen interest in our digital marketing platform, specifically the Rockets app. I began to question why there seemed to be a lack of cohesion across the platform. After talking to my colleges, I quickly learned that the ticketing feature within the Rockets app was a common pain point among fans. 

In an effort to empathize with users, I collected data both internally and externally that would guide my improvements to the Rockets app.

I conducted interviews and created user personas to better understand the users for which I am designing and their needs. Drawing upon prior research (YouGov Profiles+ 2022-08-21), I also learned that a primary user group within the app was fans aged between 18 and 35, most of whom would be familiar with typical user flows on popular social media platforms.

This research, along with usability testing I conducted within the organization, confirmed my initial assumptions about user pain points. Namely, our users are simply looking for intuitive features that imitate the other apps that they use. In an effort to listen to users even further, I collaborated with our internal strategy team to develop surveys that would better elucidate the pain points of users within the app.

Using the information that I collected, I proceeded to ideate potential solutions that align with business needs and allow users to successfully find desired information within the app.

I created quick sketches in Figma, playing with different components and interfaces that best serve the users. Doing so allowed me to pick what features I liked within each sketch and identify components that would mesh well together, while still aligning with the existing format.

Engaging with users helped me to better understand the pain points of new users within the design of the Rockets app. In turn, I was able to create accessible solutions that address the primary concerns of users within the app!
